London (May 7 to 9)

Already fulfilled almost two months since we were in London and had not written the promised post about the trip. What do I do with Julie Andrews in the background, for inspiration, because it (the concert) was the main reason for the trip.

A weekend (we arrived on Friday night and returned Sunday afternoon concert on Saturday evening) is too short to see the city so we had to select enough. The first experience was getting lost on Friday even though our hotel was being close to the bus station ... Furthermore, the first Englishman who asked (not very handsome but with an accent sexy, in that there was general agreement) sent us the wrong way and just next to Buckingham Palace. The good news is that thanks to this we got into a taxi in London, what wonderful thing ... In older, we want a London taxi. Also dinner, very late (in fact we were afraid of not being able to do so), in a very cool site. Fish & chips, because there Wherever you go ... And also a step in the theater where they represent Wicked, so I could buy your enooorme Duki umbrella (which we loved until around at the airport began to have trouble bending check it and then came to Madrid ... but is settled, relax).

Saturday was the day more stressful, since we had the concert in the evening and the morning had to dedicate it to see things. Also, someone did not change the clock and woke us up an hour earlier than expected and necessary ... However, there came to us from all evil, because then we were on the streets early and long.

The first was to go see Buckingham Palace on a voluntary basis and no one we lost, not ourselves . After admiring the Isabelita house, we went to Picadilly (in works, which detracts a lot) and then to Trafalgar Square. We stopped just before in a souvenir shop to shop relevant. Postcards, pens, mugs, plates, etc. of Lady Di and the Royal Family still scare me ... Go geeks. Anyway, after we headed to Trafalgar Square, Westminster and we had fun ratillo good there. but do not enter the abbey itself because it was a real steal ... In addition we were fortunate to spend most of the morning with no rain, no rain or too much, and neither was too cold, so it was perfect for walking. Finally, we went to Hyde Park, even though we were dead and needed to regain strength, so we just sit on a bench and then returned to the hotel to eat and rest before the concert.

mid-afternoon, we went to O2, which was to take place the concert. It was the first experience in underground, and that morning we moved all the time on foot. We went to North Greenwich, and how cool is to go see the meridian (it is painted on the floor) as you go underground to the site itself. O2 is the typical site of events (concerts, etc). Its equivalent in Madrid would be the Palacio de los Deportes, if it is added to a shopping center with restaurants, shops and pita skating. The auditorium itself is amazing, very large and quite comfortable. While we were waiting for the doors opened, we started conversation with an Italian who had gone to London he just to see the concert, with his book of Mary Poppins and all (edition 1964). And finally came the big moment ...

The Hills Are aliveee with the sound of muuuusiiiic . I would need an entire post to tell the concert, but I'll try to summarize. Julie Andrews was accompanied by five other singers (two women and three men). For her it was impossible to hold a whole concert singing alone in the problems it has had on the vocal cords (for a bad trade) and I did pretty singing some numbers. The concert was divided into two parts. The first was a tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, authors of many well-known musical with Julie worked a lot. The second was based on Simeon's Gift, a children's story he wrote with his daughter Julie and a musical to offer this concert. The problem is that many issues were left out some of the famous musicals Julie, especially me, I missed Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady but singing Do-Re-Mi Edelweiss or chorus with so many people and, above all, Julie Andrews, is priceless ... Nor have any of the anecdotes told and most perfect accent so glad to hear speak English. I think I can only describe with one word very obvious: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

With the "hangover" from the concert we returned to the hotel. We also had to take the Sunday morning and her reserve Camden, and we liked a lot. Also ate there (yours truly, as I had already tried the typical, opted for a paella ... and was very good!). After kicking around, we went back to the bus station and from there to the airport. In addition to the chaos with Wicked umbrella, spent a good while crossing their fingers in front of the screens, because the Icelandic volcano was making the rounds in northern Spain flights were canceled. Fortunately there was no problem to return to Madrid. On the plane, I recognize that the market that Ryanair mounted amused us enough ... and the game of trying to guess what would be flying province too (never know).

We went hungry for more, the weekend we were made very short and leave us much because we had no time for more material. That is a very positive side and we will have to come back and finish watching the city as it deserves and, if possible, with the same company, even if we change to Julie for Elphaba ... ;).
